Restore Windows default emailer
Problem:
Running Windows update regularly sets Microsoft Outlook (Express) as the default email client even though I want to use Thunderbird.
Solution #1:
In Thunderbird, ensure that you have set Thunderbird to check if it still the default client, 'Always check to see if Thunderbird is the default mail client on startup'. You can also click the button in Thunderbird's Options General
(tab).
Solution #2:
A heavier weapon is to fix this from registry. Fix is pretty simple. When you have Tbird working properly as a default client, go to registry editor (regedit.exe) and export the mail setting. You should retrieve the following content into a .reg file:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail] @='Mozilla Thunderbird'
Once you have this line in a .reg file, you restore the setting simply by evoking context menu (right click) and selecting Merge. Should be back in order!
