scp - secure copy example

Following examples describe typical usage of scopy, scp or secure copy utility found in typical UNIX/Linux systems.

From remote computer to local

scp johndoe@unexistent.org:/tmp/temppi.tar.gz .

From local computer to remote

scp temppi.tar.gz johndoe@unexistent.org:/tmp/temppi.tar.gz

From one remote (source) computer to another remote computer (target),
first logs in to source computer, then to target computer

scp johndoe@nonexistent.org:/tmp/temppi.tar.gz johndoe@unexistent.org:/tmp/temppi.tar.gz

Recursively (whole directories) from local computer to remote,
use switch (argument) R

scp -R /tmp/foo johndoe@unexistent.org:/tmp/
